FMP : Evaluation

Image
During these past 2 months, I was working on a project with a very heavy topic that was important to me, France and the colonisation of Francophone West Africa. The whole project has been successful, I managed to create a film which came out how I wanted; it was very informative and visually pleasing. This project holds immense significance for me as I was able to shed light on an issue that resonates deeply with me. I take great pride in the awareness I've raised and the impact it may have on others' understanding of this complex historical narrative. Beginning with my research, it was crucial in shaping my film. Both primary and secondary sources were essential. Without them, my film wouldn't have turned out the same. Research laid the foundation, ensuring accuracy and preventing misinformation from spreading. I prioritised online sources due to the fact that they are easily accessible and simple to verify. This approach ensured that the information I incorporated into my...

FMP : Deliver

To bring my vision to life, I relied on a variety of applications, each serving a specific purpose in the creation process. Firstly, I used notes to create my script and then I used voice memo to record myself reading the script for my film. Next, I turned to Paint.NET, a graphic design tool, to create drawings of maps and flags for my film. Additionally, I utilised Photoshop to create captivating GIFs. In the post-production phase, I turned to CapCut, a video editing software, to piece together the various elements of my film.  These apps helped me improve how the film flows, enhance transitions, and make the final product look great. Using these apps made my project feel more detailed, professional, and true to my vision. I made sure every part was carefully made to match what I had envisioned. Initially, I wanted my film to be around 5 to 7 minutes in length. However, as I looked at the amount of information I had gathered, I realised that achieving this duration would be imposs...

FMP : Develop 2

During this week of development, on the journey of creating my film, I made a conscious decision to start writing a detailed script in my notes. These notes served as a means to capture my thoughts, ideas, and to create a script, with the ultimate intention of utilising them for voice recordings to be incorporated into my film.  Contemplating the use of an AI voice to aid in this process, I found myself combating with the idea of using AI to alleviate the challenges I often face when reading text out loud. While the prospect of utilising AI seemed promising initially, promising a smoother workflow and alleviating the struggle I have with reading from a script aloud such as stuttering, not speaking clear enough or speaking too fast, I soon came to realise the potential downsides.                                  One prominent concern that emerged was the risk of the AI mispronouncing certain words o...

FMP : Develop 1

During the initial week of development, I engaged in experimentation with different materials for my project. Focusing on the Guinean franc (syli), a topic I wanted to touch on in my film, I opted to craft my own physical version of the currency. Choosing paper as my canvas, I painted the currency's format with green paint and decorated it with a layer of green fabric. I used black chalk to write the words of the banknote, aiming for authenticity and visual impact. This process allowed me to create a visual element that aligns with the narrative of my film. I feel this was successful as I managed to get as close and accurate in detail as I could to the real currency. In my ongoing exploration, I went into experimenting with a variety of different colours for printing, aiming to discover if any alternative outcomes resonated more with me. During this process of experimentation I began to understand how different colours possess the power to evoke emotions and communicate themes with...

FMP : Discover

For my FMP I decided to make a documentary style film on France and the colonisation of Francophone West African countries which relates back to Democracy, Empowerment and Protest. During the Discover phase, I did a lot of research on the topic and created a storyboard to decide what I wanted to feature in my film, and a moodboard to decide on the visual aesthetics of the film. For my primary research I visited different locations, went on walks observing the environment and listened to songs to spark ideas in my head on how I wanted to structure my film. This proved to be very helpful as I am someone who comes up with many ideas when reflecting this way. For my secondary research, I decided to explore the internet looking for videos, websites, etc which could help me for my project. However, recognising the importance of multiple research sources, I didn't limit myself to online sources alone. I also reached out to my family members, seeking their guidance and expertise to broaden...

FMP : Define

For my project theme my topic is France and the colonisation of Francophone West African countries. My aim for my final outcome is to create a film to educate people; possibly a powerpoint too so that my film isn't too long. My outcome prototype I plan to make during this week is creating my own physical version of a currency from Guinea called Guinean Franc (Syli) as there is a lot of history behind it that not many people know about due to the fact that the story behind it has been scrubbed from the internet and hidden from the media. For my project I want to use fabrics, paint and chalk to achieve what I have in mind.

Industry - Design Development: Unit 8

During this unit, I had a two-week window to devise a final outcome based on a quote or short text related to the environment. After careful consideration, I selected a verse from the song "Rain on Me" by Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, drawn to its reflection on how weather can impact one's mood—an aspect I aimed to include in my final outcome. My project took the form of a leaflet, intended to explain how the weather affects your mood. While I felt moderately satisfied with the outcome, having successfully curated a fitting colour scheme and incorporating segments of my chosen text onto the front page, there were aspects that left me wanting. Notably, the printed colors did not quite capture the desired pastel effect that I had on Illustrator, diverting from the aesthetic I had envisioned. I feel my final outcome was too basic, however, given the two-week timeframe and my emphasis on documenting the developmental process, I refrained from dwelling on what I could have done...
