The Design Process: Deliver

Image
Reaching the conclusion of this project, I discovered newfound knowledge and new skills ready to be applied and expanded upon. The final week of my project has been marked by triumph, as I successfully compiled my accumulated research and experimentation, effectively creating my final outcome. My final outcome, which is a short film, is based on me fantasising about being in LA then eventually it turns into a reality. My goal was to deliver an interesting short film that basically captures my POV of LA which I feel I managed to successfully do. I wanted to mimic a "youtube vlog style" short film which is why in some of the clips you can hear background noise along with the music which is something you see alot of in youtube vlogs. Although I wasn't able to present my final outcome as it wasn't done yet at the time, I explained to my peers what I was trying to develop with my short film and some of the feedback I got was to create a poster to promote my short film. I w...

The Design Process: Develop

Image
This week, our task was to develop our design from the research we had. My research helped me to envision what I wanted to bring to life with my short film.  Doing detailed research wasn't just something I had to do; it was crucial for figuring out the creative path I wanted to take with my short film. We took part in two workshops this week. The first one being Illustrator where we were taught the basics of typography. I used the short text I had to pick to work with in these workshops "In Los Angeles, everyone is a star." and came up with different ways to manipulate the text as shown below. I was very pleased with my outcomes as I had learnt something new and they came out lovely. The second workshop was using Photoshop. We learned different ways to use its features and create different outcomes. I managed to create two GIFs as my outcome in Photoshop which I was very happy with. In one of them I had to choose a short text to work with and I chose "In Los Angeles,...

The Design Process: Define

I n light of my extensive research and visual experiments, I have opted to embark on the creation of a short film that showcases my personal perception of Los Angeles through my own lens. Drawing inspiration from David Lynch's cinematic masterpiece, "Mulholland Drive," a film that was recommended to me, My creative pursuit involves capturing the essence of Los Angeles as perceived through my own lens. This project aims to materialise in the form of a short film, My intention with the final outcome is to create a short film ,  commencing with a dream sequence portraying my idealised vision of the city. This transition seamlessly evolves into a tangible depiction of reality — K ind of similar to how people interpret the first half of  David Lynch's film to be a dream and then later a reality.

The Design Process: Discover

Image
During this week, we have been introduced to a new topic called The Design Process. Our primary objective was to create a visual outcome to a place/places.  The main objectives of this week were to brainstorm ideas and research. We had to choose a place/places that we consider important or emotive to ourselves – places that make us feel a certain way, hold particular meaning, or that we think deserve attention. I decided to go with Los Angeles as my place that I'd use for this project. The reason being is that I’ve always wanted to visit LA since I was little, I like the ambiance and design of the city as I feel like it resonates with me as a person. Even though I have not yet been I have always felt a close sense of belonging towards this city. My brainstorming was based on Los Angeles, in my brainstorm I decided to include information about the senses I would experience there such as "What does it look like? • How big is it? • What colours can I see? • What is the temperatur...
