FMP : Evaluation

During these past 2 months, I was working on a project with a very heavy topic that was important to me, France and the colonisation of Francophone West Africa. The whole project has been successful, I managed to create a film which came out how I wanted; it was very informative and visually pleasing. This project holds immense significance for me as I was able to shed light on an issue that resonates deeply with me. I take great pride in the awareness I've raised and the impact it may have on others' understanding of this complex historical narrative. Beginning with my research, it was crucial in shaping my film. Both primary and secondary sources were essential. Without them, my film wouldn't have turned out the same. Research laid the foundation, ensuring accuracy and preventing misinformation from spreading. I prioritised online sources due to the fact that they are easily accessible and simple to verify. This approach ensured that the information I incorporated into my...

To bring my vision to life, I relied on a variety of applications, each serving a specific purpose in the creation process. Firstly, I used notes to create my script and then I used voice memo to record myself reading the script for my film. Next, I turned to Paint.NET, a graphic design tool, to create drawings of maps and flags for my film. Additionally, I utilised Photoshop to create captivating GIFs. In the post-production phase, I turned to CapCut, a video editing software, to piece together the various elements of my film.  These apps helped me improve how the film flows, enhance transitions, and make the final product look great. Using these apps made my project feel more detailed, professional, and true to my vision. I made sure every part was carefully made to match what I had envisioned. Initially, I wanted my film to be around 5 to 7 minutes in length. However, as I looked at the amount of information I had gathered, I realised that achieving this duration would be imposs...

During this week of development, on the journey of creating my film, I made a conscious decision to start writing a detailed script in my notes. These notes served as a means to capture my thoughts, ideas, and to create a script, with the ultimate intention of utilising them for voice recordings to be incorporated into my film.  Contemplating the use of an AI voice to aid in this process, I found myself combating with the idea of using AI to alleviate the challenges I often face when reading text out loud. While the prospect of utilising AI seemed promising initially, promising a smoother workflow and alleviating the struggle I have with reading from a script aloud such as stuttering, not speaking clear enough or speaking too fast, I soon came to realise the potential downsides.                                  One prominent concern that emerged was the risk of the AI mispronouncing certain words o...

During the initial week of development, I engaged in experimentation with different materials for my project. Focusing on the Guinean franc (syli), a topic I wanted to touch on in my film, I opted to craft my own physical version of the currency. Choosing paper as my canvas, I painted the currency's format with green paint and decorated it with a layer of green fabric. I used black chalk to write the words of the banknote, aiming for authenticity and visual impact. This process allowed me to create a visual element that aligns with the narrative of my film. I feel this was successful as I managed to get as close and accurate in detail as I could to the real currency. In my ongoing exploration, I went into experimenting with a variety of different colours for printing, aiming to discover if any alternative outcomes resonated more with me. During this process of experimentation I began to understand how different colours possess the power to evoke emotions and communicate themes with...
